PALETTE KNIFE ART CLASS INFORMATION

INSTRUCTOR: FRANCOIS ARENAS, Artist.
Francois has been painting as far back as he can remember. He studied under the tutelage of mentor Elisabeth Richardson and at the Royal Academy of Art in London. He perfected the use of the Palette Knife and technique of Expressionism.

In 2002 he founded the Grapevine Main Street Art Gallery to exhibit his works in his own gallery as well as have a place to share his passion for painting with students and other artists. His practical approach, combined with the ability to explain complex concepts has allowed him to build a substantial following in a short time. He offers classes for beginner as well as the intermediate and advanced adult student.

PROGRAM FORMAT: Mr. Arenas use a combination of lecture, demonstration and allowing the students to practice and perfect their skills in class. Critiquing the student’s effort “on the spot “allows them to practice them at home between weekly class sessions.

Each Adult-Beginner program consists of eight ( 8 ) weekly sessions of two ( 2 ) hours. Adult-Advanced program consists of ten ( 10 ) weekly sessions of two (2) hours. Class size is limited to 10 students or less. Minimum age is 18.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:

Understanding the role of colors in composing a picture
The importance of “ values “ and how to use color in establishing them
How to work with a palette knife to provide “ texture “ to your paintings
The critical elements to be considered in composition of pictures including space, static, planes, lines, shapes, and most importantly, learn what is a Golden Eye and how to use it on the composition.

MATERIAL REQUIRED:
For the beginner program, the student will be required to have the following items prior to the first class: One roll of paper towels, a pad of palette paper (a large one), a pad of canvas sheet ( a large one ), a small brush “ filbert”# 1 or 2. In addition, you will need to have you paint tubes; here is a list:

-- A Titanium White -- A French Ultramarine Blue
-- A Yellow Lemon Hue -- A Phthalo Blue
-- A Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue -- A Prussian Blue
-- A Cadmium Red Light Hue -- A Alizarin Crimson Red

TUITION: $300 for each 8-week adult-beginner program. $275 for each 10-week adult-advanced program. Tuition is payable prior to the first class and there will be no refund for missed classes. Make-up class for missed classes could be arranged if the student notifies and arranges with the teacher in advance of missing a class. A fee of $25 will be levied for returned checks.
